Ariana Grande (born June 26, 1993) is an American actress, singer, songwriter, and dancer. She plays Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon series Victorious and is well known for her first single Put Your Hearts Up. Ariana was born in Boca Raton, Florida and is of Italian decent, being half Sicilian and half Abruzzese.
In her early years, she has been a soloist with various symphonies including South Florida’s Philharmonic, Pops and Symphonia Orchestras, and has had repeated appearances singing at NYC’s own Birdland. Ariana performed the National Anthem for the first LIVE FOX SPORTS broadcast of the Anthem for the Florida Panther’s hockey league.
In 2008, Ariana played the role of Charlotte in the musical 13 on Broadway, for which she won a National Youth Theatre Association Award. When she joined the musical, Ariana left her high school, North Broward Preparatory School, but continued to be enrolled. In early 2012, she graduated from her high school, and has plans to head off to college in the coming years to further her education!
In the Summer of 2009, as a member of the charitable organization, Broadway in South Africa, Ariana performed and taught music and dance to children in Gugulethu, South Africa. Also, at the age of 10, Ariana co-founded the youth singing group, Kids Who Care, in South Florida, which performed for charitable fund-raising events, raising over $500,000 for charities in 2007 alone.
In early 2009 she was cast as Cat Valentine on the hit Nickelodeon television series VICTORIOUS, written and directed by Dan Schneider who also wrote All That, Drake & Josh and iCarly. Then she dyed her hair red velvet for her role as Cat on the show, with her natural hair colour being brown. Victorious is continuing to become a huge success and is currently in it's third season.
In 2010, she created the original role of Miriam in the reading of the new musical, Cuba Libre, written and produced by Desmond Child. In 2011, Ariana had just completed her first voice-over work as an animated Fairy, Princess Diaspro, on the new Nickelodeon series, Winx Club.
Most recently, she was signed to the Universal Republic Recording Label allowing her to produce professional music and start on her musical career! On the 12th of December 2011, Ariana released her first ever single called Put Your Hearts Up which debuted at number 25 on the pop charts. She also performed the hit single on NBC’s Gymnastics and Skating Spectacular in front of more than 33 million viewers.
During the summer holidays of 2011 Ariana performed to a sold out crowd at New York City’s Irving Plaza and more recently sold out the famed Roxy in LA. To celebrate New Year’s Eve for 2011, Ariana performed in front of over seven thousand fans. The city of Hershey Park, PA had to close down one city block to accommodate the crowd.
Ariana has over three million followers on twitter and has been named one of the Most Asked Actor Online above Charlie Sheen and Reese Witherspoon.
